My tribe has a special relationship with the locals, it started during a harsh winter season... Neither species contact the other unless it is a matter of life and death.
— Robb describing the state of affairs

The Silver Eyes are a Merfolk tribe located in a remote region up in Alaska whose warriors are strong and fierce in battle.

Personality[]

The Silver Eyes are isolationists, almost never making contact with outsiders and only fight within their own territory on their own terms. Most other merfolk tribes and colonies likewise keep their distance from them, for it was inferred that the Silver Eyes are not generallly friendly to outsiders. When Yura's tribe does make contact with human outsiders, they only do so under specific circumstances involving a situation of life and death and vice versa.

Physical Appearance[]

While sharing the same physiology as other Merfolk, their skin and scales are white, to indicate their territory's polar climate.

Population[]

Everyone in the tribe is born female, to keep the ratio of males and females balanced the matriarch chooses the most eligible mermaid to enter a pool of seawater located just outside of their waters. The pool allows them to change sex, this is vitally important especially when their mating season begins. Prior to transitioning to male, the female is given a black marking on their face to indicate themselves before and after entering the pool. It would seem that this capability to switch sexes is either rare among the species or even unique to this particular tribe, since Ryn was unfamiliar to the practice despite being part of and leading her own different tribe.

Relationships[]

Human Locals[]

As told by Robb the human locals know his tribe very well, they willingly caught enough seafood to trade with during a harsh winter season. If any human wishes to make contact with the Silver Eyes, they enter a fishing hut located in the center of a frozen shore directly above their waters. They must give an offering, specifically a rainbow trout, and reel it down into the hole where the tribe exits and enters.

Ryn's Tribe[]

Yura first meets Ryn in "Northern Exposure", after the transition pool is restored to health, Yura informs Ryn that he is willing to join in their fight against Tia. In the climax of Season 3 finale, Yura's warriors arrive just as Ryn's tribe was outnumbered by Tia's. After Ryn defeats Tia, everyone including Yura bows to her acknowledging her as a powerful Alpha.

Trivia[]

  • The same pollutants that affected Ryn's tribe during their mating season has even traveled far into their waters, which damaged the water of the transition pool.
