The Outpost is the thirteenth episode of second season of Siren and the twenty-third episode of the series overall. It aired on July 11, 2019.

Synopsis

Mermaid mating season has begun, with Ryn knowing she will need to go back to the sea to help her colony. Beth convinces Levi to come with them to a remote location to the other hybrids of his kind, leading Helen and Rick on a hunt to find them. Ben and Ryn follow, only to discover a stranger cult-like group that is joyful of their presence.

Beth: "What? Our great-grandparents fled the massacre, they didn't lead it!"

Helen: "It was on the DNA test that led me to Rick."

Rick: "She never told me about that."

Ben: "I'm sorry. I made a mistake. I should have told you."

Ryn: "Why?"

Ben: "I was afraid."

Ryn: "Afraid?"

Ben: "Of you thinking I am the same as Charles."

Ryn: "Shame."

Ben: "Yes. I am ashamed to be related to someone who could do that."

• Ryn discovers that Ben is a direct descendant of Charles Pownall, the human who massacred her kind centuries ago.
• It is revealed that during mating season, both the merman and mermaid's skin glow with a tan-colored light.
• The merpeople's graveyard, where Donna and Charles Pownall's mermaid/human daughter are buried, has been violated.
• In this episode, we learn about a mermaid's reproductive system: they have a bicornuate uterus just like one a whale or a dolphin has.
