Dale Bishop is a recurring character on Freeform's series, Siren. He is portrayed by Gil Birmingham.

Dale Bishop was the local Sheriff in Bristol Cove. He was also Maddie Bishop's stepfather. He was estranged from Maddie's mother Susan Bishop, whom he believed was being guided by the lord himself. In "The Toll of the Sea", after saving a mother and her son, after suffering the effects from Tia's Siren Song, he passed away, then his body was found by Xander McClure, who became Sheriff after his death.

Early Life[]

Years ago, he went to his stepdaughter's school to give a lecture on being a sheriff at the police academy.

A decade ago, when had gotten a call from the police station about Elaine Pownall's boating accident and rushed with Susan to the hospital. He had cancelled dinner plans with Susan to keep the worried Ted company while Elaine was in surgery in the I.C.U.

Personality[]

Dale was a humble and spiritual person. He tried to see the good in all situations, especially by assuming his estranged-wife was being guided by a higher power instead of believing she abandoned his stepdaughter and him. Dale was also a skilled police officer and followed his good morals in handling legal and personal situations.

Tia[]

Although he never personally met Tia, the latter became his primary enemy when she infected him with her song, killing him in the process.

Katrina[]

Dale only had one encounter with Katrina, during the climax of "Street Fight" when he was going after her.

Ryn[]

Dale meets Ryn after she is caught by Marissa in "Dead in the Water", she is brought in for questioning about Donnie Price's murder. Maddie arrives soon after, she takes some salt water from a fish tank to pour on Ryn's hand to show Dale that she is a mermaid. Dale, after seeing Ryn's true nature, decides to let her go.

They meet again at the Siren Song Motel where he sees Glen Jenkin's corpse in the room, he asks Ryn to come with her. Wile driving, Dale tells Ryn that he is grateful for protecting his step-daughter Maddie. He also explains to Ryn that killing another person is wrong, and how the importance of laws keeps everybody safe. He also tells Ryn that Bristol Cove's beliefs represents a co-existence where humans and Merfolk are together and at peace.

Both him and Dale have had their fair shares of family issues, they have been great friends for a long time. However, this is partially affected after their meeting with the town council went awry as Ted said nothing positive on behalf of Dale regarding the events from "Street Fight".

Trivia[]

  • In addition to his stepdaughter and Ben Pownall, he was the third human ally and helper to Ryn and her people
  • In the Season 2 premiere, it is revealed that did not tell Ted that the Merfolk his family was/is so obsessed about were, in fact, real all along. His refusal to answer the town council's questions has forced to him undergo a "psychiatric test" in Seattle.
  • Like his stepdaughter, he kept Susan in the dark about what is really happening at Bristol Cove.
  • In Episode 19, it is said that he is not pleased with his stepdaughter's involvement with the implosion of the Klesco Oil's drillship.
  • "Primal Instincts" is when Dale sees the good in Ryn.
  • For most of Season 3 he was out of town as mentioned by Marissa, before returning and falling victim to Tia's Siren Song.
    • His body was found by Xander and after his death Xander became the new Sheriff.
